Fear of Failure

I was afraid of failing. I thought that failures are losers but when I learned that we never succeed in anything in life without failing over and over, everything has changed for me.

Do you remember the last time you wanted to do something but there was fear holding you back?

Why do we have it in the first place and is it really helping us in our life?

Well sometimes it’s helping but sometimes it isn’t.

So I invite you to read my post and reflect with me, I am sure that by the end of this blog, you will have more confidence to face your fears and move forward.

Why Fear Exists?

As you know, our mind aka our supercomputer that we have between our ears is very powerful but has some limitations that I will discuss with you.

The mind does everything to hold us from hurting ourselves, otherwise, you can imagine people jumping from the bridges and diving into oceans – doing some crazy stuff. Thank god, it’s not the case.

As I said the mind has some limitations.

One of them is putting fear in front of us and holding us from taking actions to achieve something that we love. Let’s say, you want to start taking some steps towards your financial independence.

First of all, you might decide to replace your job.

Whenever you have this idea, I am sure that the mind will start making the process very scary.

Why? Well because it’s an unknown path, it’s uncomfortable and a little bit different than what you have done in the past.

Sometimes we start making excuses in order to avoid taking a scary step, here are some of my personal favorite.

“I can’t do it because I don’t have good circumstances” or “I am not lucky enough” or “It’s not for me” or “I will think about it later”…

Fear Of The Unknown

Let’s face it, we all have some kind of fear.

The most common one I found, is the fear of the unknown.

When we don’t know what is going to happen, we feel uncertain which becomes scary. Normally, we want to be sure about what is coming next. For example, we tend to feel secure if we have a job that pays our bills instead of taking some calculated risks to become entrepreneurs and enjoying life on our own terms with more freedom and flexibility.

We are afraid of uncertainty.

Fear Of Quitting An Unfulfilling Job!

One of the biggest hurdles in my life was to quit the unfulfilling job. I was a software engineer well paid BUT miserable.

I didn’t have life-work balance.

I was working all the time. When I am not at work, I was thinking about it. It became the reason for my unhappiness and un-fulfillment. I wanted to quit but couldn’t.

Well, I thought only about the negative side of quitting. I thought that if I quit I will not survive, if I quit I can’t replace my job if I quit I have no skills or knowledge to start something new, on my own.

Yes, I wanted to be an entrepreneur very badly but didn’t quite know how to start or what to do…

How I Overcame My Fear

I can tell you from my personal experience that quitting your job is not an easy decision to take especially if you have responsibilities on your shoulder or you have no other option to make a living.

So one day I started reflecting.

I wrote the worst-case scenarios that might happen if I quit my job and how to survive in each scenario.

It turned out to be possible and exciting. Because it’s a challenge and I love challenges.

The worst-case scenario, was me quitting my job and have no money left in my bank account to survive.

Then I thought about the solutions that I can have, well, I can do several things to survive, like food delivery on bikes, bartender, homeschooling for kids…

The idea I am trying to deliver here is that no matter how big the fear is, we must overcome it. Firstly, by imagining the worst-case scenario and secondly, by finding adequate solutions to it. This way will help us calm down the fear.

What I Learned From Fear

Fear is a feeling that will stay with us forever whether we like it or not, but we have the power to control it. We need to turn it as our ally and not our enemy.

Whenever I fear something I know that I need to deal with it immediately.

First of all, I acknowledge it, then I face it and overcome it.

Every time you win a battle with your internal fear, you are not only growing but definitely moving forward in your life towards your dreams and goals.

Fear Of Starting An Online Business

“No, it’s risky…”

“It’s too hard, I can’t do it…”

“I am too old…”

I don’t have the knowledge and skills…
I hear what might be going in some of the people’s heads.

Well, I had exactly the same thoughts.

Before I started building my own online business, I used to listen to all these online businesses owners speaking about their laptop lifestyle and the kind of freedom they have and I said:

“It’s too good to be true…”

Sometimes we are conditioned to think in a certain way. Unfortunately, society has brainwashed us and convinced us to work hard and trade our time for money which is no longer the case in our digital world.

Nowadays we have AI, Robots, Machines, Websites, Online platforms and tools that can do almost anything for you 24/7/365. Not convinced? Well, you are actually reading this post which proves my point 😉

So I wanted to think out of the box and I gave the online business a second thought and said, well, if everything is now on the internet if artificial intelligence started kicking in if systems can work for us if robots started replacing the human’s jobs, I said it’s the best time to start an online business and I must not delay it anymore because later on, it might be too late and I would regret it!

Thank you for reading,

I truly wish you all the very best,

Elie Abboud
